Carnival takes place at the beginning of March 4-13 March, depending on the year. It usually lasts from around 10 days to two weeks. Every evening and weekend you will find groups of people dressed up in the same costumes and singing. They do competitions, similar to the famous ones in Cadiz, but on a smaller scale. It is a very fun atmosphere.
Sunshine tour- equeastrian competition
With a privileged location, just 5 km from the town of Vejer de la Frontera, the Dehesa Montenmedio becomes the ideal place for the celebration of this high-level sporting event, which attracts the most prestigious riders in the world and lovers of the horse world.
It is an international equestrian competition in the discipline of show jumping, held every year during the winter months.

On Easter Sunday (Sunday of Resurrection)the 17th of April. Instead of having an Easter procession they run with the bulls in Vejer de la Frontera. This year they will have 3 bulls, one in the morning and two in the afternoon running from side to side of a long Street (Av. San Miguel – Hotel Convento San Francisco). They let them free at 13:00, 16:00 and 17:00.
Spring fair in Vejer de la Frontera
The Feria de Primavera (Spring Fair) takes place before the fairs in Jerez de la Frontera and Seville. The spring fair in Vejer will be from the 27th April until 1st of May. For this fair there is a schedule listing the events. In addition to the fair rides, it includes Retinto cow breed livestock competitions. Moreover, you will find horse-dancing competitions, and flamenco shows in the “casetas” (bars within tents to drink, dance and have a great time). It’s great fun for all ages!
Flower competitions in private houses
With the aim of publicizing the beauty of the old courtyards, which in spring reach their maximum splendor, the Municipal Delegation of Culture organizes the “Week of the old patios” in which the Contest of Patios, Facades and Zaguanes is included. 9 to 15 May 2022

La peña flamenco (flamenco club) in Vejer and the city council organises a flamenco singing competition in June and the beginning of July. The final competition is at the end of August where the year’s finalists face off. This year in 2020, it was going to be the 23rd flamenco competition in Vejer de la Frontera.
Candle night in Vejer
“Noche de las velas” in Spanish, this spectacle can get quite busy, and deservedly so. It usually happens in mid to end of June, this year is the 4th of June. All electrical lights are turned off and the streets are filled with over 10,000 candles! There is an easy path to follow to the “Plaza de España in Vejer” where there is a superb classical concert. It’s truly a romantic evening!
Jazz in Vejer de la Frontera
It is a unique experience where a mix of culture, history, views and gastronomy pairs incredibly well with Jazz music. It usually takes place at the beginning of July, however you may find live jazz music at some restaurants from as early as April. This year is from the 7th until 9th of July.
Hotels, restaurants, the walls of La Segur, and the theatre are places where you will be able to see live famous jazz musicians. Some of the performances require tickets while there are many others that are free to see in the village.
The summer is a very lively and spectacular time to visit, with lots of live music, flamenco, theatre, and more. You will find events every weekend between July and August as well as some of the evenings. One recurring event is Flamenco on the Balconies. Every thursday evening there is a different flamenco performance playing from the balcony to people on the street at different locations in the village.
Virgin of the olive parade and week
In the first half of the last century, the custom of bringing Ntra. Sra. de la Oliva on pilgrimage from her hermitage to the town on August 10 and taking her back on the 24th was adopted.
During these 14 days acts of worship were held and his Image was venerated in the Parish Church of the Divine Savior.
From August 10 to 14, liturgical acts are celebrated, among which we highlight the processional departure of the Patron Saint through the streets of Vejer on August 15.

“Día del Lomo en Manteca” food festival in Vejer de la Frontera
Lomo en Manteca or “Pork Loin in Lard” is a famous food from the village. The event will be the 16th of October. Stands and restaurants have different variations of loin in lard outside and inside for people to try. There are also show cookings lead by renowned chefs from the province. During these days you must also visit the Street “Callejón del Lomo en Manteca”, named after the food. It is a great food festival in Vejer de la Frontera.
Live nativity scene
More than 200 extras shape this living Bethlehem through the streets of the historic artistic center of Vejer, converted into Judea, among which are children, young people and monitors belonging to the Scout Group Eden 309, organizers of this event.
The inauguration and opening of the Living Bethlehem begins in the Plazuela with the representation of the scene of Jesus and Mary on a donkey looking for an inn.
