What should you expect in this become an artisan in Cadiz province tour?

Our "Become an Artisan" tour in Cadiz is a private full day experience. We can arrange the tour from Cadiz province or Seville. However, please take into account that the tour will be happening in the mountain system of Cadiz province.

Make your own cheese

We will pick you up at your hotel in the morning to be able to arrive to the cheese farm and factory at 10:30am. Here you will start with a local cheese tour. You will learn how to make fresh traditional cheese with full flavour, how cheese tasted over 50 years ago. You will make your own traditional cheese and taste it with some local products. As well, you can take any remaining cheese with you to enjoy later. While the cheese is pressing we will go to the farm to see the free roaming goats and enjoy the views. Also make sure to bring comfortable walking or hiking footwear if possible.

After tasting your cheese and ending this cheese tour we will head to Iptucci. This Roman and pre-Roman ruins have the best views in the area, here we will learn about the local history. On the way to the ruins you will see Mediterranean forest and learn about what makes this forest unique. Then, head to the nearby white town to have lunch, taste local food products and relax for a bit.

Make your own leather souvenir

In the afternoon we will start with the leather tour. The leather tradition in Ubrique started more than 200 years ago, initially with tanning leather. Eventually this evolved into the precise leatherwork which the town has become so well known for. It’s these kinds of skills, honed over generations, which have drawn in the big brand names. Do you want to learn about the leather artisans sought by the world’s top designers? In this pueblo blanco (white town), from which many of the top fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Hermes, Chanel, Chloe and more source their leather goods.

We will visit a local leather Factory for our leather tour that has its own brand but uses the same techniques as these other factories used for international design and learn about the leather-making tradition and modern art. When we have learnt about the whole process, then we will head to the leather museum. In this leather museum you will be shown how things were traditionally made, like Passports, shoes, and more. To end this cheese and leather tour you will make your own leather souvenir with the leadership of a specialist. This souvenir was the first leather product ever created in Ubrique, used for holding tobacco. However it can be used nowadays to hold coins and cards. Finally we will head back home and drop you off at your hotel.

However, in “become an artisan” in Cadiz tour we are able to do most things inside of a building, if there is heavy rain on the day we will not be able to visit the Roman ruins or visit the goat farm due to unstable soil conditions.
